Position Summary
Bechtel is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the Engineering department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T).
Assigned to projects to develop structural engineering deliverables for the project. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit. Well-versed in executing modular structural design.
Typical Responsibilities
- Responsible for assigned activities and deliverables within the structural engineering discipline on the projects. Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables for modular structures.
- Prepares layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.
- Prepares bulk material quantity takeoffs applicable to the discipline.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators). Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
- Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work. Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for bulk commodities.
- Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews. Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of engineering techniques. Devises new approaches to technical problems.
- When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
- Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.

Skills and Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree in structural engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with significant experience in large scale industrial projects
- Chartered Engineer in the UK
- Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
- Prior experience on executing structural works in EPC projects with significant module scope of work.
- General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
- Extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of computers 2-D and 3-D structural analysis, computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.
- Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
- Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, job hour estimates, and schedule planning.
Additional Qualifications
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in civil, structural and architectural at Bechtel.
- Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.
- Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
