Contract: Permanent, Full Time (0.5 teaching) (32.5 hours p/w) 

Salary: Leadership 7 - 11 (£58,565 to £64,229) 

Start date: September 2024

Are you ready to change the course of children's lives? We are looking for great people to join the founding team at The Compass School, a small school for pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. We are growing and are looking for two excellent school leaders to join us as Assistant Headteachers. You could be from a Primary or Secondary, or Special School background, as long as you are excited about working with our amazing pupils and staff to build a brilliant school.

Come to our Recruitment Evening on Wednesday 6th March from 4:30pm to 5:45pm at The Compass School (London Road, Romford RM7 9NU) to find out more. There will be a talk by the Headteacher at 5pm and tours and informal questions before and after. You can also contact the school to arrange phone call with the Head for an informal conversation about the role. 

As we are growing, we are looking for inspirational teachers with a passion for SEN and a creative, innovative approach to developing and delivering the curriculum. Join us and to make an impact on the learning and life chances of our students. We are recruiting two Assistant Headteachers, one for Lower School (Primary and Year Seven) and one for Upper School Year Eight to Year Eleven. You don’t need to have experience in a Special School, but you will need creativity, curiosity and flexibility. The pupils are all able to access the National Curriculum at age-expected levels, so we need you to engage and challenge them to achieve their best. You will be able to use all your teaching and leadership experience and have the additional rewards of seeing pupils flourish, who were not able to do so before joining our school. 

We are looking for candidates with the motivation, resilience and determination to ensure that pupils make progress, improve their experience of education and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives. We are interested in hearing from people with experience of teaching and leading in a range of settings – you don’t have to have a background in Special Needs or SEMH, just be open minded and flexible in how you apply your skills, attributes and knowledge and want to work with our pupils. We educate young people between the ages of 7-16 who have a wide range of Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. Many of the pupils may also be on the Autistic Spectrum. 

The school serves a catchment area that covers Havering and surrounding areas of East London. The school will also be adding to our network of special schools, alongside Sir Bobby Robson School, Ipswich, The Bridge School, Ipswich and Churchill Special School, Haverhill and Sir Peter Hall School, Bury St Edmund’s. You will be supported in your role by experienced special education leaders who will be available to offer advice and guidance as the school moves forward under their leadership. Significant training and development are available through opportunities for professional development, research, teacher training and collaboration between schools and across phases.
