The Company:
Supplier of British beef products.
The Job Role:
As the Manager in our Lairage you will be responsible for animal welfare and health and safety, hygiene and operational matters. You will also be responsible for managing a small team and be a key contact with the delivery of livestock to the site, maintaining daily throughput, and ensuring our robust policies and procedures are met and maintained.
Location: Shropshire
Salary: £37,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, Weekend Availability
Key Responsibilities: - Work closely with the Animal Welfare Officer to actively promote and ensure Animal Welfare is adhered to at all times.
- Ensure that the unloading of livestock is undertaken by the required Animal Welfare standard.
- Ensure that the movement of cattle within the lairage is completed in a safe and calm manner without causing stress to the cattle.
- Adhere to Company's hygiene practices & animal welfare procedures.
- Comply with health & safety rules, to prevent/minimise the risk of accidents.
- Communicate to your team, vets, drivers and report any issues or concerns.
- Ensure feed/bedding stock is kept up.
- Complete/delegate daily start up checks on vehicles and machinery within the lairage.
- To actively comply with all company employment policies and procedures.
- Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
- Oversee the effective running of your area, monitoring employees and organising workflows based on production plans and service levels.
- Attend team meetings, conduct Return to Work Meetings/1-2-1's, performance reviews and holiday scheduling for team.
- Train, Mentor and Develop new starters.
- Training staff on correct policies and procedures ensuring records are up to date.
- Ensuring team are wearing correct PPE and daily audit checks are conducted.
- Adhering to companies' hygiene practices e.g., 5s and GMP, ensuring any fabrication issues are reported to line manager to minimise downtime and risk to Health and Safety.
- Communicate to your team and report any issues or concerns.
- Actively comply with all company employment policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring operations carried out in their area are in line with legislation, customer specification and site policy ensuring that product is produced safely and of high quality in line with HACCP principles.
- Willingness to implement change for continuous improvement, ability to analyse current working practices for improvements, flexibility, adaptability and cost containment.
- Reporting on KPIs.
Candidate Requirements:
- Appropriate experience of operating in a similar role.
- Hold an animal welfare licence (desirable not essential).
- Hold a slaughter licence (desirable not essential)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Practical approach to problem solving.
- Works well under pressure, supporting and encouraging the team.
