What you will do in your working day
Projects can be defined and delivered within different contexts, across diverse industry sectors and they can be large or small. Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success.
An Associate Project Manager knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project team to achieve the required outcomes. Associate Project Managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills.
Vacancies are available within our Adult Social Care, Sustainable Transport, Highways and Infrastructure and Capital Programme Teams and they offer the opportunity to work on exciting, high-profile projects, intended to make a real difference in our area.
As part of these teams, you will gain practical and relevant project management experience.
This is an excellent opportunity which offers a wide range of transferable skills. This apprenticeship requires that learners are a minimum of 18 years old upon starting the apprenticeship.
Topics covered by this apprenticeship may include:
- Project management principles - including business cases, objectives, delivery, lessons learnt, project plans, reviews, scope and scheduling
- Governance and stakeholder management - including organisational structures and responsibilities and stakeholder perspectives, interests and influence
- Leadership and communications - including vision and values, collaboration, motivation, team management, conflict resolution and negotiating skills
- Financial management - including benefits management, budgets, cost control and performance tracking and management

As an Associate Project Manager apprentice with Westmorland and Furness Council you will receive:

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship programme many of our apprentices have moved on to either a higher level apprenticeship or have secured permanent employment with the council or other employers and have embarked on an exciting career pathway
- Whilst there is no guarantee that a position would become available at the end of your apprenticeship, Westmorland and Furness Council works in partnership with other organisations throughout the county to maximise the opportunities that are available to apprentices
- The skills you learn and the qualifications gained will be transferable to other roles either within the Council or with other employers
