Job description
What you will do in your working day
You will start by learning AutoCAD to develop drawings skills and understanding how buildings are constructed. You will be guided by experienced engineers and technicians, with additional training an courses as needed.
As you develop your knowledge and work through your degree you will experience translating your university knowledge into practical engineering designs for real world projects.
Support and guidance will be provided to you throughout, with agreed time set aside to assist with university work if required.
- Manage the planning, budgeting and organisation of tasks, people and resources through the use of appropriate management systems, working to agreed quality standards, project programme and budget, within legal, contractual and statutory requirements.
- Communicate effectively and provide guidance to others through design models, calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, presentations, digital media and discussions with those both inside and outside the industry.
- Carry out and record the continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance knowledge and competence as a civil engineer.
The training you will be getting You will finish the apprenticeship with a BEng in Civil Engineering, and an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Upon successful completion of the course you will be promoted to a graduate or junior engineer, with plenty of opportunity to progress further.
You will work in the Stroud office of Lark Cooper for 4 days a week, with 1 day at university.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship Once qualified you will become a graduate or junior engineer.
You will start to be responsible for your own projects, as well as assisting new apprentices and graduates.
You will be able to progress to become a full chartered engineer, as well as working towards managment positions as desired.
