Job description


Be at the heart of future public service design by joining our Digital Services team as a Senior Developer.

Reporting to the Development Manager, you willbe responsible fordesigning, developing, andmaintainingcomplex software systems and applicationsfrom supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.Overall, a senior developer plays a crucial role in the software development lifecycle,leveragingtheirexpertiseto deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and industry standards.

Digital Services is the central hub for technology support to Islington Council. Delivering core IT services and IT/Digital projects across all council services. We aim to provide exceptional experiences for the users of our digital products and services.

You will enjoy working in a fast paced environment, in a team that is committed to delivering exciting and significant digital content. Using a range of techniques and tools, you will join up service provision and deliver great outcomes for the residents of Islington.

• To have a deep understanding of programming languages, frameworks, and tools related to their domain. Proficient in multiple programming languages and have expertise in specific technologies and platforms.
• To be actively involved in designing the overall structure and architecture of software systems. To analyse requirements, identify appropriate technologies, and create high-level and low-level designs to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability of the software.
• To write efficient and clean code based on the project requirements. To follow best practices, coding standards, and design patterns to ensure high-quality software development. To also review code written by other team members and provide guidance and feedback.
• As required to take on leadership roles within development teams. To provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, help with task planning and estimation, and collaborate with other stakeholders such as project managers, business analysts, and quality assurance teams.
• Responsible for identifying and resolving complex technical issues and bugs in software applications. To use debugging tools, perform root cause analysis, and implement appropriate solutions to ensure smooth functioning of the software.
• To stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and programming languages. They continuously learn new skills and techniques to improve development practices and drive innovation within their teams.
• To comprehensively document software designs, technical specifications, and development processes. To also effectively communicate with team members, stakeholders, and clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and address any technical queries or concerns.
