Job Role:
The specialist teacher of Food and Nutrition works within the Art, Design & Technology Faculty and is responsible for delivering Food and Nutrition teaching throughout the school. Food and Nutrition is taught alongside Textiles and Product Design at KS3. In Year 9 these lessons are taught in a carousel on rotation by specialist teachers, in Years 7 and 8 each teacher rotates with their class and teaches all three specialisms. We currently offer GCSE and A Level in both Product Design and Fashion and Textiles. We are at an exciting stage of development for our faculty, and we are open to the possibility to extend the provision for Food & Nutrition. We are in the process of developing and refurbishing our facilities within the faculty so there is the potential to update the teaching environment. Food & Nutrition is highly valued in our school and is very popular with our students, it fundamentally contributes to the ethos of our school community.
The Department
We are keen to offer the teaching of Food & Nutrition to our Junior School students and would like to develop our Outreach programme to involve the local community. Cooking at university is offered as part of the Sixth Form General Studies programme in which GHS girls participate together with a nearby boy’s Sixth Form. House cooking events and clubs are at the heart of our extra-curricular provision. The Food & Nutrition teacher would be responsible for the ordering and budgeting requirements for the department and liaising with the technician to ensuring the preparation of food for all classes and clubs.
Technician support is available and shared between Food, Art and Textiles. Expertise in Textiles and Product Design to KS3 would be welcome but is not essential and we would offer specialist training in these subjects if required.
