Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Monday-Friday (Full-Time/Part-Time - 8:30am-3:30pm) -Term Time Only
Salary: £76-£85 a day
Veritas Education are working with a vibrant and inclusive specialist school in Bradford. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for the students. The students have a range of needs including learning difficulties, Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and challenging behaviours.
Veritas Education are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join the dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the class teacher to support the learning and development of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Provide one-to-one or small group support, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
- Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the student's needs and ensure progress.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists and physio therapists to create a comprehensive support network.
- Assist students with intimate personal care when required.
- Communicate with the student's using PECS, Makaton, and British Sign Language.
- Interact with the children throughout the school day and assist on the playground.
- Be confident with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies (Level 2 Team Teach).
Requirements:
- Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs in a school environment is essential. Experience working with adults in a care/residential setting is also valued.
- Level 2 Team Teach Positive Behaviour Management training is essential, this training can be offered by Veritas.
- Safeguarding training is essential, this training can be offered by Veritas.
- Moving and Handling training is desirable.
- Knowledge of specific SEN interventions is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the unique needs of each child.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute positively to the school community.
- Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
- Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
