Job description

The main responsibilities of the post will include the following: Education, Training and Supervision Act as a role model, supervisor and mentor for Pharmacists, Technicians and other members of Pharmacy staff.Be Lead Tutor for the Clinical Diploma or equivalent.Appoint, train and support suitable staff supervisors, tutors and mentors..Quality assure and update training programmes in line with GPhC/RPS/HEE requirements.Oversea the review and maintenance of up-to-date in-house training packages.Facilitate the in-house development of training for all grades of pharmacy staff.Produce and advise on training timetables as required.Support with the departments IP plan.Support and engage with regional training as required.Engage with regional and local training networks.Provide data to HEE to enable funding and workforce development.Line manage and mentor allocated staff.Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Medicines Safety and Training, as needed.Take responsibility for own personal CPD by participating in education and training programmes to improve competence and acquire new skills and research to benefit development of the service and develop membership for the Royal Pharmaceutical SocietyFaculty.Act as the Lead for continuing professional development with the Pharmacy Service.Co-ordinate post-registration education and training.Oversee development of non-registered staff. Medicines Advice provision Provide active information to address local and national medicines-related issues.Develop and facilitate methods for staff to keep up-to-date with therapeutic developments.Develop evidence-based guidelines, policies / procedures, and advice to facilitate the appropriate use of medicines.Carry out or supervise audits relevant to the service across the Trust.Maintain appropriate standards of service and safety; to provide and enforce guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure standards are met. Support for Pharmacy Structure and Objectives Ensure that education, training and medicines advice are integrated within the wider Pharmacy Team by effective and appropriate communication.Work with Pharmacy colleagues to improve the overall Pharmacy Service.Contribute to the development of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation plans. Clinical Pharmacy Service Provision Participate in the Clinical / Advisory Pharmacy Service; this includes reviewing prescriptions for legality, safety and efficacy, monitoring the effects of medication and patient counselling.Record clinical activity and monitor the outcome of this advice.Provide information, advice and guidance to patients and staff on the safe, effective and economical use of medicines.Maintain knowledge of developments in pharmacy practice and undertake continuing professional development.Fulfil the requirements of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Professional Practice.Undertake adverse drug reaction reporting where necessary. Audit and Research Develop, undertake and maintain relevant clinical audits and practice research relating to clinical governance and medicines usage.Provide data for KPIs and Quality Improvement projects.Guide and support others undertaking research audit and service improvements e.g.,Diploma Pharmacists.Participate in local and national audits, peer review, point prevalence or service improvement projects using local and nationally recognised tool kits.Monitor interventions in treatment to identify training and information needs.Participate in the analysis, identification, and management of medication risks. Other Duties. This will include the following tasks:Provide the training for Technicians Medicines Management Scheme and enhanced patient counselling skills.Undertake duties elsewhere in the locality, if requiredAll practising Clinical Pharmacists undertake validation duties in the Dispensary.Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager or the Chief Pharmacist.
