We are a 16 bedded, acute female mental health ward, for patients over the age of 65.

We are a team that support newly qualified staff through a comprehensive preceptorship period and offer a supportive induction to those with experience.

Situated on the Birch Hill Hospital site, (a Pennine Care NHS Foundation site, which offers free parking for staff). The ward is covered by 2 Consultants, and is supported by other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team – Occupational Therapist, Pharmacist, Advocacy etc. The ward has close links with other Rochdale Older Persons Mental Health Services which are based on site – The MERIT team (Community Mental Health Team), The Home Intensive Treatment Service, The Care Home Liaison Team and the Memory Clinic.

To undertake and co-ordinate direct patient care. From assessment through to planning and delivering high quality care. Involving the patient throughout, and communicating with family members, carers and other professionals as required.

To act as Nurse in Charge, in the absence of senior nurses.

Direct supervision of junior staff.
