Job description

Definition of the Role:
Deliver youth work services and support programmes as part of a new Childrens and Young People Mental Health early intervention hub, providing activities and support to young people aged between 18 and 25.
Purpose of the Role:
To coordinate and deliver a program of high quality, young adult led, positive activities reaching out to young adults aged between 18 and 25, promoting their personal, educational and social development, and engaging them in activities aimed at re-dressing inequalities, improving their life chances, and empowering them to take action on issues affecting their lives, including mental and physical health, education, unemployment and the environment, by developing skills and attitudes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Delivering a programme of young adult led positive activities (for 18–25-year-olds) achieving agreed outcomes, ensuring monitoring and evaluation is completed.
• Support the planning, delivery, and evaluate sessions and services as per the Youth Hub project plan including: - 18–25-year-old “Get Active”, “Get Creative”, “LGBTQI+ support”
• Undertake youthwork, observing all required welfare and safety procedures.
• Deliver/support the delivery of on-site and off-site engagement and developmental activities (arts, music, community, environmental, as well as activities supporting engagement in training and employment)
• Work with the Youth Hub Manager, Listening Service Manager, Y Mentoring Coordinator and wider youth team to support individual young people based on their needs.
Project Delivery:
• Ensure compliance with appropriate organisational/project policies and procedures.
• Maintain overview and link with The Listening Service and other youth activities taking place at YMCA St Helens, in St Helens and surrounding areas.
• Work with the Youth Hub Manager, Listening Service Manager, Mentoring Coordinator, and youthwork team members to develop a diary of youth activities
Additional Duties:
• To be aware of our organisational ethos and policies and to work within them.

Skills and Attributes:
Essential:
• Experience and/or qualifications in youthwork and/or young adult-based activities
• Good understanding of youthwork and the needs of young people and young adults
• Practical understanding of health and safety within a youthwork setting
• Experience of successfully delivering youthwork/young adults projects
• Skill/knowledge/experience in one of the following areas
o Get Active (Dance/Drama/Sports)
o Get Creative (Art/Digital Media/Craft/Cooking)
o LHBTQI+ support
• Strong young people’s skills
• Ability to work evening and weekends.
• Self-motivated with high level of initiative
• Safeguarding young people experience/training.
Desirable:
• Knowledge & experience of working with young people and/or young adults with mental health/SEN/challenging behaviours
• Flexible approach to working, able to adapt to changing landscape.
• Capacity to engage with people from various sectors, cultures and traditions.
• Experience working with young people with SEND.
• Qualified in First Aid
• Current driving licence (with category B1 – or willing to train) and access to vehicle.
