Job description

To support and develop public health in maternity services including but not limited to; smoking cessation, immunisation and nutrition in pregnancy.

The successful candidate will provide a non judgemental approach to caring for our clients, supporting families who use our services to improve their health and wellbeing.

Candidates with public health experience through nursing or midwifery are encourage to apply.
• Support the Specialist Midwife – Health and Wellbeing, deputise within the scope of their remit, when necessary, to ensure continuity and delivery of high standards of care.
• Act as an enabler for safe and effective care working across community and inpatient settings to promote best practice through enhancements in multi-disciplinary working, clinical recording and support professional practice.
• Assist with development, implementation and local audit of policies, guidelines and pathways in public health for midwifery across the trust.
• Support, assist and advise women and their families around public health in partnership with their named midwife, specialist midwife health and wellbeing and the health and wellbeing team.
• Act as an advocate for women and liaise with public health services, other services and partner agencies to ensure that women are receiving specialist public health care they need.
• Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that women and their families receive appropriate information about in a sensitive way.
• Work with colleagues to ensure that there is appropriate screening and early identification of women with, or at risk.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
