What is a Solicitor? A solicitor is a qualified legal professional who provides specialist legal advice on different areas of law and is responsible for representing and defending a client's legal interest.

As an Apprentice Solicitor, you will work towards and achieve competencies that will enable you to make an effective contribution to the delivery of the legal teams within the Legal & Democratic Service. 

Under the direction of qualified lawyers, you will gain training and experience in the work of the council’s legal service to help the service operate effectively and efficiently. 

You will also undertake an apprenticeship course, attending an appropriate training provider on a day release basis as required to complete the course.  You will be undertaking projects and assessments as required and in accordance with course deadlines. 

Your normal place of work will be County Hall, Durham but you may be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham. 

What qualification will I gain?
You will study towards the Solicitor Level 7 standard with Northumbria University.

What will I need?
You must have or expect to achieve a minimum of 120 UCAS Tariff points from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A-levels, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas or the International Baccalaureate.  

You must already hold Maths and English GCSEs grades 9-4/A*-C or equivalent.
