Job description
Recra is working in partnership with a nationwide recycling company who are seeking a permanent Health, Safety, and Environmental Officer to join their team.
You would be working closely with the Head of Health and Safety and Compliance to ensure the coordination of the Company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental functions.
Role and Responsibilities: - Be the primary point of contact for all health, safety, and environmental issues for employees, Management Team members, Directors, and external stakeholders at the HQ.
- Provide health, safety, and environmental instruction and information as required.
- Conduct investigations, record, and report all accidents and near-miss incidents.
- Attend and contribute to Daily Operations Meetings with Management Team members.
- Undertake a daily site inspection and distribute a written report to company Managers and Directors.
- Management of the HQ ISO drive to ensure all Management System documentation is accurate and accessible.
- Undertaking extensive internal and external audit preparation (to include the review, revision, and creation of ISO Management System documentation) and attendance at audits.
- Oversee the maintenance of other company certifications/accreditations (for example SafeContractor/CHAS).
- Coordination of the HQ Health, Safety, and Environmental Committee Meetings (HSEQ) and the completion of minutes.
- Preparation and dispatching of reports or information relating to health, safety, and environmental operations.
- Research and booking of training courses.
- Formulate and deliver internal training courses (such as manual handling and fire warden training).
- Maintenance of Departmental Training Matrices and scanning of training certificates;
- Completion of relevant supplier tenders/assessment questionnaires.
- Liaison and communication with external enforcement agencies and regulators as required
- Undertake confidential minute-taking as required by the Compliance Manager in respect of the company’s Disciplinary Procedure.
- Assist with company compliance policies in relation to drug and alcohol testing and stop and searches.
- Deputise for the Head of Health and Safety and Compliance as required at both sites.
- Undertaking any other duties as required.
- To travel to our other site when required.
Essential skills and qualifications:
- Hold an NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice or NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Hold an IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management.
- Proven health, safety, and environmental management experience ideally within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Confidence to lead by example and challenge unsafe behaviours or practices.
- Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Flexibility to meet Health, Safety, and Environmental Department demands across the sites, as situations arise.
Hours: 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
