Job description

We are looking for full and part-time Support Workers who want to give something back and truly want to make a difference every single day.

What will you be doing?

Every day as a support worker is different, but we always strive to have a positive impact on the day-to-day lives of the people who draw on our support. In Wrexham, we support 15 adults with learning disabilities and autism aged 26 - 65, however for consistency, you will mainly be working with one person. Due to our current needs, we are currently looking for Female applicants only.

Let’s meet Sarah*!

Sarah always starts her day with a shower, which she does need some assistance with. From here, every day is different. Sarah loves to go shopping, buying all of the latest fashion trends. She also loves to get creative, often designing her clothing and accessories. Sarah likes to keep fit, regularly goes for walks, and loves to go swimming. However, Sarah also likes to just stay in some days, watching her favorite TV shows and movies. You may also need to support Sarah to take medication and attend medical appointments, but full training will be provided.

Do you have interests and hobbies? We are hoping that you can bring new ideas and introduce us to more things that we can do.

Where are our services?

We have four services in and around Wrexham – Ponciau, Ruabon, Llay and Coed-y-Glyn. We will match you to the service that we think fits fit in the best, you will not goinging from service to service. Everyone who draws on our supp toeaeir own flat or bungalow which gives them the freedom to live their own lives.

What do we want from you?

We are looking for people who share our values, who are warm, friendly and willing to learn, and also who celebrate people’s differences. At MacIntyre, we strive to make all of our staff feel included, valued and respected, just like the people we support.

You don't have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of Emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medicationseverallr of training courses that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don’t worry, you will be given plenty of notice.

You must however have a resilient, patient and compassionate attitude as there may be times when you will need to help Sarah control and regulate her emotions and anxiety in line with her Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan. But please do not worry, full training on this will be provided.

Due to the needs of the people we support and the location of our services, you must also hold a full clean manual UK driving licence, as your ability to drive unlocks opportunities for people like Sarah to do the things they really enjoy! But don't worry! You won't be racing between appointments.

We provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and so the ability to work bank holidays and weekends is desirable. You will be working on a shift pattern which may include regular early morning starts (7-am) and late evening finishes (10pm) depending on the service you are based at. Therefore, we need you to be flexible with your availability, but we do always try and be fair when distributing shifts.

What about pay?

In Wrexham, MacIntyre Support Workers will earn an hourly rate of £10.90. If you hold a NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or a higher qualification, your pay will rise to £11.10 per hour. You will have the opportunity to complete these qualifications whilst working with MacIntyre. This means, on a full-time contract, your annual salary will be £21,312.23 - £21,703.28 depending on qualifications.

In addition to your annual salary, you’ll have the opportunity to work sleep-ins** at an extra £65 per night. This adds an extra £3,380 to your annual salary if you do 1 sleep in a week. There is also often overtime hours available too!

We were founded in 1966 by the visionary parent of a child with disabilities and have been growing steadily ever since. We celebrate and develop everyone’s unique gifts, talents and contributions.

Training and Development

At Macintyre we fully support your training and development. We know it can be daunting to start a new job, and not everyone learns the same way, so throughout your probation we will provide you with a mixture of eLearning, face-to-face training and mentoring support whilst on the job.

But it doesn't stop there - throughout your career with us you will have access to our own dedicated in house Learning and Development team, Quality Specialists, and HR Teams. These teams, along with your Manager, will provide you with opportunities to learn and develop professionally as well as enabling, and you to achieve professional qualifications and career progression opportunities - all free of charge.
