Job description
Could you join our Board as our Fundraising Trustee, supporting the work of the Board and CEO to relieve the distress and suffering of people, with a particular focus on women and children who have suffered or are exposed to domestic abuse?

Experience of the refuge sector is not essential but any successful candidate will be expected to be able to demonstrate an understanding of, and empathy with our values, aims and objectives.
It is not necessary to have previous experience of being on a Board. We will train you up.
What are we looking for?We seek a candidate who has the time and energy to commit to Safe in Sussex and the confidence and skills to act in a governance role and bring their fundraising expertise.

We aim to operate a supportive environment where fellow Trustees and members of staff are encouraged to develop their skills to their fullest extent and this role will play an important part in achieving that aim. An understanding of the charity and voluntary sector will be an advantage and knowledge of the governance of charities is essential. We are also looking for someone who has understanding of, and empathy with the aims and objectives of Safe in Sussex.

What difference will you make?This role plays an important part in the robust governance of the charity by working with and supporting the Chair, the Board and the Senior Management Team to ensure the success of the organisation. As part of a small governance team, your specialist skills will be valued and respected and will be utilised to enhance the effectiveness of the Board.

Applications will be considered in the first instance by the Chair of the Board and may involve a telephone interview. Suitable applicants are invited to submit a written application and then, if selected, to attend three board meetings as an observer. If all parties are happy the applicant will be invited to join the board after the third meeting. References will be taken up prior to the third meeting. The usual checks, induction and training will be undertaken.
