About BikePark Wales

BikePark Wales is the UK’s number one mountain bike facility located at Merthyr Tydfil on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park just 25 minutes north of central Cardiff.  The park is now an internationally recognised destination and a mecca for mountain bikers, descending on Myndd Gethin, a 491-metre summit.

BikePark Wales is a young, successful business which is growing fast. 

The current offering includes over 45 world class mountain bike trails, a vehicular uplift service, café, bike shop, bike hire, coaching and events but an ambitious development plan is now underway to both improve the existing services and add new products to the existing site.

The Role

An exciting opportunity for an energetic, responsible, and highly organised individual to join the BikePark Wales team as Events and Duty Manager. You'll manage the whole process from, developing a creative and exciting event programme, right through to running the event and carrying out the post-event evaluation. You’ll work closely with all team, and form an events committee, encouraging cross departmental engagement.

As the duty manager, you will be hands on in the running of the daily operations, ensuring all departments are working effectively, and delivering world class customer service. With a varied rota you’ll be working across all areas with a focus on Visitor welcome, Uplift and Café you will aid departments to cover breaks and busy periods, handling customer complaints, should they arise on the day.

You will manage any issues, in a calm manner that allows the customer experience to be unaffected. Elements of this role require outdoor work and suit an individual who would enjoy this environment.

Duty Manager responsibilities to include:

Taking key roles within the daily operation of BikePark Wales as Duty Manager

Assisting the Visitor Welcome department on customer service

Assisting the Uplift operations on operational service and delivery

Assisting the heads of department, in delivering exceptional standards of customer service

Working across all departments to deliver an excellent visitor experience

Responsible for opening/closing procedures

Assisting with health & safety compliance across the site

Reporting any issues with site infrastructure and presentation to the facilities team if not able to address personally

Ensuring the customer experience is at the forefront of every daily decision.

Event Manager responsibilities to include:

Develop and manage an annual events programme

Produce detailed proposals for events (including operational event plans, suppliers, legal obligations, staffing and budgets)

Manage and coordinate suppliers and all event logistics

Work closely with the Commercial team to publicise and promote the event

Manage all pre-event planning, organising guest speakers and delegate packs

Coordinate suppliers, handle client queries and troubleshoot on the day of the event to ensure that all runs smoothly and to budget

Recruit & manage a team of event volunteers

Managing the team of event staff, giving full briefings

Manage ‘wash up’ meetings  & Produce post-event evaluation to inform future events

General team duties:

To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

To co-operate with relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.

To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with the Company’s equal opportunities policies.

To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.

To understand and comply with the Company’s environmental policies

To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibilities of the post

Key skills:

The ideal candidate will have a passion for and previous experience of quality visitor experience

Exceptional personal standards and understanding of customer service

Proven minimum of 1years’ experience in event management

Minimum of 1 years’ experience in leadership, at assistant manager level, is essential for this role

Outstanding organisation and planning skills and a good eye for detail.

Exceptional problem solving skills

Excellent people skills with the ability to build strong relationships, internally and externally across all teams, strong communication skills both verbal and written

A hard working and adaptable manner, with a solid common-sense approach

A knowledge of health and safety procedures

 

Desirable skills:

A keen interest in MTB and BikePark Wales

Ability to communicate in the Welsh language

Enhanced DBS certificate

First Aid Qualifications

IOSH Qualification
