The Opportunity
Director of Development and Public Benefit
As a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Development and Public Benefit at Hulme Grammar School will play a pivotal role in shaping the school's future and advancing its mission. Aligned with our vision and embodying our values, they will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the school's relationships with various stakeholders, including alumni, parents, donors, and local and wider community, while also leading efforts to secure financial support for the school's activities, including our transformational bursaries programme.
This is an important administrative and customer-facing role and highly developed people skills are required.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continually refine a comprehensive development strategy aligned with the school's long-term goals.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with current and potential donors, including alumni, parents, other individuals and foundations, to meet the school’s ambitious fundraising targets.
- Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, annual giving, and major gift programmes.
Alumni Engagement
- Support the Alumni Relations Manager in harnessing the goodwill and affection the Hulme alumni body feel for their school, and in maintaining a vibrant and engaged alumni network, promoting alumni involvement and support for the school.
- Support the planning and execution of alumni events, reunions, and networking opportunities to foster a sense of belonging, community and lifelong relationship with the school.
External Relations
- Enhance the school's visibility and reputation in the community through effective external relations efforts.
- Collaborate with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team to engage with local businesses, government officials, local schools and community organisations.
- Identify and develop partnerships and sponsorships that align with the school's mission and values.
- To enhance the opportunities for the school to be more actively engaged in the local community and to put the school's resources more readily at the disposal of the local community.
- Ensure that the mechanisms for capturing the school’s positive impact on the local area, including its economy, are tracked.
- With the Director of Marketing, Admissions and Communications, ensure that the school’s public benefit work is celebrated and publicised effectively.
- Be the principal point of contact with the School Partnership Alliance.
- Liaising with staff, parents and suppliers as authorised
Leadership
- Lead the development function of the school, increasing the school’s fundraising capacity and ensure the school is effectively executing its moral duty to serve the community, locally and further afield, and to support the Principal And Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the school continues to be the engine for social mobility it has been since
- its inception.
- Develop clear strategies, provide strong leadership and set measurable targets by which progress can be monitored
- At the same time, recognise that some of the work of the Development and Public Benefit work of the school cannot be easily measured.
- Contribute to the work of the Senior Leadership Team and work collaboratively with colleagues in the delivery of the school's development plans and longer-term strategy
Health and Safety
- Reading and complying with the employers Health and Safety Policy both for their own protection and for all other employees, pupils and visitors on site
- If suitably qualified, act as a first aider
This is a permanent full-time, full-year role, however flexible working is considered. The salary is competitive.
