Purpose of Role
To work as part of the McLaren Prototype Build Workshop Team currently based at the McLaren Technology Centre.
Role Dimensions:
The Prototype Build Lead Technician will direct (and participate in) the builds of prototype vehicles, rigs and bucks using a team of skilled technicians. Whilst working closely with and under the supervision of the Prototype Build Workshop Group Leader and the Prototype Build Engineers, the Prototype Build Lead Technician will feedback key information and support the wider programme activities where appropriate.
Principal Accountabilities
- To asses / dictate the best order of build tasks, to ensure build tasks are carried out to the correct quality, to track and report on build task progress towards ensuring deadlines are met, to plan build tasks for the next day.
- To achieve the above through daily briefings and ‘build board’ management.
- To co-ordinate simultaneous vehicle builds in an effective and intelligent manner, managing conflicting priorities to tight deadlines.
- To work closely with the Prototype Build Workshop Group Leader and the Prototype Build Engineers, frequently reporting on status of builds and technician team.
- To support all programme meetings when required.
- To support workshop development activities, working towards improved workshop and stores area.
- To identify any developmental needs of the technician team and offer mentoring (informal) or recommend formal training as appropriate.
- To become familiar with the Company Health and Safety guidelines, regulations and representatives.
- To ensure the Prototype Build workshop activities are, and the workshop itself is, fully compliant with all Health and Safety requirements.
- To ensure that the Prototype Build workshop and adjacent Service Yard meet McLaren standards of presentation in terms of parts storage, tools storage, order and cleanliness.
- To support mid-year and end-of-year Performance Reviews for the technicians as requested by the Prototype Build Workshop Group Leader.
- Principal Accountabilities as a Technician:
- Work closely with the members of the technician team to build high-quality, reliable prototype vehicles, bucks and rigs for effective test and development of future vehicles.
- Support a diverse range of activities, including the builds, component manufacture, fabrication, and testing.
- Develop good working relationships with members of the core Prototype Build team to ensure quick problem resolution, and efficient communication of technical issues.
- Contribute ideas for vehicle packaging and assembly for systems in all areas.
