About the Role 

The role involves supervising a variety of classes across the school and delivering cover work to students in their absence of their normal class teacher. During cover lessons your role will be to ensure all students understand the task which has been set and are engaged with learning. Tasks may also need to be created to extend and challenge pupils if they complete the cover work before the end of the lesson.

You will also be expected to manage the behaviour of the class when covering in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy. It will be essential to work with the students to ensure they are getting the most of out of the lesson and to facilitate their learning as much as possible.

Our ideal candidate is a conscientious and dedicated team player, who is happy to work flexibly in a busy school. You will have excellent communication skills and a good command of written and spoken English.

This role provides an opportunity to become involved in education and is an ideal position for someone looking to develop a career in teaching. We would welcome applications from anyone looking to qualify as a teacher in the future and would be willing to support you in achieving this.

We will provide training to support the candidate in this new position.

The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification and will be subject to the relevant pre-employment checks which will, where applicable, include a health check, an enhanced DBS check, the Children’s Barred List check and satisfactory references.

This will be supported by the school improvement plan which will identify key distinct tasks and responsibilities for this role in the school year. These will be derived from ongoing school self-evaluation and other local/national priorities. The postholder’s duties must be carried out in compliance with the school’s policies and procedures including child protection and safeguarding procedures.
