We are looking to recruit a Principal Town Planner, with a good understanding of the UK planning system with a focus in Wales, to help meet the needs of our clients and projects. This is an opportunity to join our Infrastructure Planning team in Cardiff. WSP employ 115 chartered town planners across the UK, operating across the infrastructure and property sectors. We are leaders in securing consent for major infrastructure projects and have one of the largest teams of planning, land referencing, environmental and stakeholder engagement professionals specialising in consent applications. Our clients include Hynet, EDF Energy, Network Rail, National Grid, Bute Energy, Welsh Government, Cardiff Council, and many more.
WSP is looking to grow its Infrastructure Planning team with the appointment of a Principal level town planner with experience of supporting and delivering clients in one or more of the many consenting regimes we work within, including Development Consent Orders, Developments of National Significance (Wales), applications under the Town and Country Planning Act, Transport and Works Act Orders, the Electricity Act or Parliamentary Bills. We work at all stages of the consenting process from early feasibility, application preparation and delivery of consents through construction and on a variety of projects.
YOUR TEAM
WSP have a passionate and successful team of 40 town planners who work within the Infrastructure Planning Team in offices across the UK. Our project work includes providing early advice on consenting strategies, consideration of options, preparation of applications, support through examinations and inquiries, and post consent discharge of requirements/ conditions. We work on projects that cross the energy, rail, highway, port, water, aviation and local government sectors, with a mix of public and private sector clients.
The successful candidate will need to be commercially aware and familiar with managing programme and budgets as part of project delivery. They will be responsible for managing and delivering into a broad range of consultancy and consents work including bidding, design/optioneering, assessment, consenting and approvals during construction and delivery.
You will be well versed in the preparation of all planning documentation for infrastructure projects, engagement with key stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory consultees. The role requires a good grounding in statutory procedures applicable to the consenting of infrastructure projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this post which will also include exposure to both internal and external clients.
