Job Description
Role Summary:
- To manage and take full responsibility for all of the Design & Estimating 'Functions' of the business for all 'Commercial' projects
- To perform all General Responsibilities
Reports to:
- The Director for all matters relating to Estimating
- Operations Manager for all matters relating to Design
Direct Reports:
- Design Co-ordinators & Design Sub-Contractors
Skills required:
- Ability to provide clear, concise information & guidance up and down the chain of command
- Excellent organisation skills and the ability to remain flexible/adaptable to quickly changing time demands/tasks
- Ability to prioritise and be proactive
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously, working to strict deadlines
- Rigorous attention to detail with the ability to self-scrutinise work output
- Good written communication skills, spelling & grammar and a confident verbal communicator
- A problem solving, lateral thinking mindset
- Competent in all Microsoft programmes particularly Excel and Sharepoint
- Competent with CAD programs such as AutoCAD
- Ability to quickly comprehend complex technological systems/technologies
- Ability to quickly & accurately capture, comprehend and extract specific sets of requirements from construction tender documentation.
- Ability to develop & design ELV/ITC/Data & Comms/Security/AV systems to a high degree of accuracy. Focusing on cost, safety, reliability, quality, compliance, and sustainability
- Ability to present a polite & professional demeanour internally & externally with a focus on promptness, politeness and personal presentation
- Ability to create and maintain a good rapport/working relationship with suppliers to serve the purposes of the business.
Job Role:
- Take charge of tenders and estimating, run through received tender packages (such as scope of works and drawings) and gather prices from suppliers to create a bid proposal
- Create file path/structure from template, download and save all tender information (or request from client if not received). Request any outstanding initial documentation required.
- Programme the tender return process, delegating tasks as required and setting up Tender Planner Timeline
- Liaise with clients regarding variations and ensure relevant site instructions are quoted and agreed
- Create drawings required for the project on AutoCAD and record them on the drawing register, to include (but not limited to) the following -
- Layout Drawings (by system, by floor) - Elevation Drawings
- Detail Drawings (IRS Roof Array, AC Door detail, Media Plate detail etc)
- Schematics (typical, sitewide etc)
- Headend Designs (Rack Design, Riser Elevations etc)
- Overlays/Heatmaps (WiFi/CCTV)
- Others as required
- Maintain client-side document control systems such as Kahua, Asite and Viewpoint
- Manage file structures, permissions, and storage/access management
- Drawing register creation and maintenance
- Timely issuance of drawings/design work
- Raise RFI's (request for information), chase responses, and incorporate obtained information into design work
- Create Tech Subs and record them on drawing register
- Schedule Tech Sub creation in line with the client deadlines
- Provide ongoing assistance to Operations/Accounts Team for VO creation.
- Be involved in teams meetings with clients
