Job description
Protocol Education are recruiting for a Behaviour Inclusion Mentor, to work in an alternative provision based between 2 sites, in Romford and Basildon.
This is a provision for childrenwho have been partly or completely removed from mainstream school. Students are referred to the schools inclusion programme and are often challenging (academically and/or behaviourally).
Your job will be to ensure consistent enforcement of good student behaviour, and to support the Centre Manager and senior management with the smooth running of the centre.
The role-
- Arrive at work in time to start your day at your specified start time (school staff are required to remain on site throughout the working day).
- Attend the morning centre briefing and all team meetings as required to report on new students and any other student issues.
- Be based within the centre and on duty on a daily basis, and be on-call throughout the day
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the CP Lead.
- Liaise with the Centre Manager on student issues, behaviour and attendance and disengagement.
- Ensure that sufficient stock is ordered in a timely manner for student breakfast (toast and squash) and that breakfast is prepared every morning.
- Upon arrival ensure that class registers are prepared, and all tutors are supplied with their copies.
- Ensure the student communal area is clean and tidy and report any health and safety/maintenance issues to management.
- Supervise the student ‘Common Room’, outdoor space and corridors throughout school.
- Record student attendance on our in-house database system, at morning and afternoon registration and throughout the day is students arrive or leave site.
- Record incidents and/or conversations/meetings involving students on our in-house database system.
- If trained, administration of first aid to students.
- Security check, including wanding and searching of all students, twice daily or as required.
- Collect and ensure safe storage of mobile phones from students in the morning and at lunchtime.
- Support tutors with students displaying challenging behaviour within the classroom by applying the BEP student behaviour policy and procedure and using effective behaviour
The ideal candidate-
- You must be physically fit and healthy as this role requires physical activity including restraint of pupils and administering first aid (subject to training)
- Ability to form productive relationships with young people who can be among the more challenging
- Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour
- Good team working skills
- An accurate and professional level of both verbal and written communication especially when report writing
Hours-
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
8.30 to 16.30 (incl. 60 min paid breaks)
Tuesday
8:30 to 17:00 (incl. 60 min paid break)
Friday
8.30 to 16.00 (incl. 60 min paid break)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
