Overview
We are currently seeking applications for a Modern Apprentice vacancy within Social Security Scotland’s Procurement team. This offers an exciting opportunity to work in an organisation which makes a real difference to people’s lives. If you are enthusiastic, good with people, and keen to join a team which offers many opportunities for development and progression, you could be just who we are looking for.

The Procurement team sits within Social Security Scotland’s Procurement and Commercial branch, which is part of Finance and Corporate Services division. If you haven’t heard of procurement before, it is the process of buying goods or services that the organisation needs. Within Social Security Scotland, this involves ensuring we are making the best use of public funds when making purchases.

As a Procurement Assistant Modern Apprentice you will play a key role in our branch and carry out a range of stretching responsibilities. You will work as part of a team and will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across Social Security Scotland and the wider Scottish Government. You will be given full training on all aspects of the role, including the systems and technology required.

During the first 12 months you will be expected to gain a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) at level 3 which is relevant to the work of the team. You will receive the ongoing support and development you need to succeed, with support provided not only by your colleagues but also by a qualified assessor who will work with you on a monthly basis. You will also be given time within working hours to work on your qualification.

Main Duties
• Supporting procurement (buying goods and services) activity throughout Social Security Scotland, including engaging with customers and suppliers.
• Supporting contract management activity, including tracking spend and delivered savings.
• Supporting tender evaluation meetings and organising the Tenderers briefing meetings.
• Creating and maintaining files and filing key documents, using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Managing the Procurement Team shared email mailbox and responding to or directing enquiries as appropriate.
• Arranging and supporting team meetings, including drafting and circulating agendas and inviting attendees, taking and circulating minutes and chasing up on actions prior to the next meeting.
• Coordinating team planning workshops.
• Booking transport.
• Producing the team’s monthly newsletter.
