The role

We are looking to recruit two Trainee Business Systems Partners into our VolkerRail finance and systems team based in Doncaster. This is an entry level role for someone just starting employment who has completed or is due to complete their A Levels or equivalent qualifications at college or 6th form.

Key accountabilities

The Trainee Business Systems Partner will play a key role in the company's Business Systems team during an unprecedented period of change. The successful candidate will be enrolled on the Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship and will complete training for 20% of their time, including following an established structured programme from an apprenticeship training provider. In addition, the role will have an experienced Business Systems Partner as line manager, as well as mentors and opportunities to develop with experience across a variety of projects.

Key duties will include:

  1. In the role you will be responsible for gaining an understanding and knowledge of the different projects within VolkerRail's Business Systems team.
  2. Projects can be large or small, however, every project needs to be managed to ensure its success. You will need to know what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take, how much it will cost, and work with the project team to achieve the required outcomes. To do this, you will need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills.
  3. You will utilise resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and authorities.
  4. You will take the lead in estimating, planning and delivering small projects, identifying resources required, key activities, dependencies and project milestones.
  5. You will develop an understanding of the project lifecycle, project governance and the typical activities within different project stages.
  6. You will take responsibility for administering project meetings, drafting minutes, preparing highlight reports and maintaining project documentation.
  7. The role will involve learning how to use COINS (VolkerRail's ERP system) so that the team can support end users.
