Location: Faringdon, Oxfordshire
Days & Hours: 15 shifts over a 4-5 week rolling rota available (number of shifts to be confirmed, equating to an average of 36.75 hours per week). Typical shift patterns are days, 7.45am-8pm and nights, 7.45pm-8am. Bank Hours are also available.

Pay: £16.16 per hour, for all shifts
Following successful completion of probation: £16.65 per hour, for all shifts
1 year's service: £17.17 per hour, for all shifts
Driver required? This is not essential for the role but applicants may need their own car to get to work due to the location of the client's home.
Driving Clients Car? There is not currently a need to drive the client's car. There is a possibility in the future there may be a need to drive the Client's automatic Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV).
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes (if licence held) to attend training and supervision. Supervision can be held virtually.
Essential Experience: Complex medical needs, PEG feeding and supporting a person through waking nights
Desirable: Experience working with adults with complex trauma and an interest in therapy
Pets: 1 dog but it lives within the family home on the same site (adjacent to the client)
Accommodation (while on duty): Fully adapted family home.

Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

The client is a young man of 24 with physical and developmental difficulties. He lives with his family in an adapted house and is totally dependent on others for all his needs. He currently has a tracheostomy and a gastric feeding tube in place. He communicates by a variety of movements and facial expressions.

He is cared for in a 2:1 ratio as he cannot be left unattended at any point in time. There is CCTV in place in the property for safety reasons.
Support staff should be dynamic, motivated, creative and aim to engage the client in all areas of his daily routines, as well as facilitate his therapies and leisure time in a fun and active way. The client enjoys a lively and animated atmosphere.

All staff should carry out domestic tasks as required, be aware of the house rules and complete recording sheets and other documentation for the client and his family.

For this position, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in care is expected as is experience of caring for someone with physical and learning disabilities. Experience of working with family members and clients is desirable.

Experience of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and language therapy is preferable. Training in managing a PEG, tracheostomy and epilepsy is essential, but training can be provided. Other duties will include giving feed, water, and later, medications via the gastric tube and administering personal care.

Each shift is twelve and a quarter hours, and the support worker will be working with a colleague.

In addition to the above this role requires working principally with the client’s family and Case Manager to:

Support the client and ensure his wellbeing at all times
Follow the client’s routines, as prescribed by the family, and take part in discussions about developing or improving the structure of the client’s schedule
Respect confidentiality at all times
Maintain any physio/OT or other programmes put into place by professionals and/or the family
Be aware of any changes in the client’s usual health, functioning or behaviours and notify the family immediately
Occasionally, additional duties may be requested by the family or Case Manager on behalf of the client.

Pay and Benefits:
£16.16 per hour for all shifts and rising with pay increments
Incremental pay rises in place as described above
