Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an advanced practitioner physiotherapist to join Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust to take lead in the clinical delivery and leadership of the Stroke and Neurology physiotherapy team.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate demonstrate significant post graduate clinical knowledge of this specialist field, including working at band 6 level within the NHS. You must also be able to demonstrate flexibility, good time management skills, organisational skills, and evidence of self-motivation.
You would be expected to carry a caseload of patients on the stroke ward in addition to clinical leadership of the community neurology service. As a key member of the multi-disciplinary team you will work closely with the medical staff and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the management of patients.
A significant component of the post will involve operational support and staff supervision within this physiotherapy team. Applicants must therefore be able to demonstrate leadership skills to assist in the development and growth of this established team and influence service improvement. You will play an active role in audits and research.
You will be required to work a shift pattern between the hours of 08:00 -17:00 and will be expected to participate in 7 day working rotas; including weekend and twilight shifts 12:00 - 20:00.
NB: there if no overnight on call requirement for this post
To take the lead role in the clinical delivery and leadership of the Inpatient Stroke and Neurology physiotherapy service.
To provide a physiotherapy assessment and treatment service at an advanced level for patients who have been admitted to hospital via a neurological pathway and patients with a range of neurological conditions.
To work as a key member of the MDT, in the management of neurological patients admitted to hospital
To lead in supervision, support, teaching and appraisal of physiotherapy staff and students, within the specialty of Neurology

Delivery of an inpatient neurology physiotherapy service to include ongoing service development
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more junior staff to do likewise on a daily basis.
Provide supervision to registered staff (band 5 and 6, unregistered staff and students.
To provide a key focus for therapeutic clinical expertise, high quality advice and support to the multi-disciplinary team.
Data collection and communication between key stakeholders.
