Due to continued growth at Pavers, we are looking to recruit a Purchasing Manager into a newly created role to join our growing Procurement team at our Head Office, Upper Poppleton, York.
As a Purchasing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our retail business by overseeing the purchasing of goods and services essential to our operations.
Managing a small team you will be responsible for ensuring a steady supply of indirect products and services, optimising costs, and maintaining strong vendor relationships and ensuring compliance.

Key Responsibilities of our Purchasing Manager
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies to meet the company's short-term and long-term goals, meeting all departmental strategic and business as usual KPIs.
- Identify reliable suppliers, negotiate terms, and secure favourable agreements while ensuring product / service quality and compliance with regulations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Evaluate vendor performance, address issues promptly, and collaborate with them to improve product quality, lead times, and pricing.
- Effective design, implementation and development of purchasing system / portal once embedded continual effective management.
- Implement inventory control practices to optimize stock levels, minimize carrying costs, and ensure product availability. Utilize inventory management software and data analysis to make informed decisions.
- Continuously analyse and control procurement costs within the P2P process. Identify cost-saving opportunities ensuring value for money, , and manage budgets effectively. Maintenance of pricing listings.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and market conditions to make informed purchasing decisions. Monitor market fluctuations and adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
- Ensure that all purchasing activities comply with local, national, and international regulations.(Purchase order management.) Have a sound understanding of ethical and sustainability standards in sourcing and comply with our Purchasing and Procurement policies.
- Supervise and guide a team of purchasing professionals. Provide leadership, mentorship, and ensure efficient teamwork.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to maintain product/service quality standards and ensure that all products meet regulatory and company quality requirements.
- Resolve invoice query escalation and develop strategies for effectively managing credit card spend.
- Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans. Proactively address disruptions that could affect product / service availability.
- Prepare and present regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and vendor performance to senior management.
Requirements to be our Purchasing Manager;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in data analysis and inventory management software.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement regulations, ethical sourcing, and sustainability practices within the retail sector.
- Experience of designing and implementing purchasing systems and framework
- Strong leadership, collaboration and team management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic retail environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with a focus on process improvement.
