We are looking to recruit a motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Family/Systemic Therapist to join our Integrated Healthcare team at HMYOI Cookham Wood in Rochester. We care for 15-19 year-old boys in custody; if you are passionate about working with adolescents then this post is for you.

Preceptorships will be considered. Applications will be considered from Systemic Practitioners in their last year of clinical masters training. Progression from band 6 to 7 would be subject to qualifying, and UKCP registration.

This is a varied role working within a rich multidisciplinary team using a formulation-driven, trauma systems approach according to the SECURE STAIRS framework.

This Role provides a comprehensive, specialist, trauma-informed therapeutic service to young people, their families and prison staff at HMYOI Cookham. The post holder will offer specialist assessments and interventions to meet the needs of young people within their family context and their overall formulation-based care plan.

The Family/Systemic Therapist role provides a comprehensive, specialist, trauma-informed therapeutic service to young people and prison staff at HMPYOI Cookham Wood.

The role will also involve the assessment of the mental health and psychological needs of young people, comprehensive formulation and the delivery of specialist systemic interventions. This will include providing advice and consultation on young people’s mental health to other clinical and non-clinical members of the wider MDT within the YOI.

The post involves having a key role in the delivery of the SECURE STAIRS Integrated Care framework and sits as part of our Health & Wellbeing (CAMHS) team. This will involve providing clinical input to a dedicated landing to support the trauma informed integrated care framework. This will include developing good working relationships with staff and young people, supporting staff to develop skills in reflective practice and understanding of key theories, such as trauma-informed care and adolescent development.

This role will provide a comprehensive, specialist family therapy service to young people at HMYOI Cookham Wood, and their families / support networks. You will contribute to the development of understanding around systemic practice within the custodial environment, linking with operational colleagues to promote joint working and collaboration. You will provide specialist mental health and psychological assessment and therapy (as appropriate to professional training) as well as offering advice and consultation on young people’s care to other members of the core team on a given landing or unit. You will support the core support team in the process of multi-disciplinary collaborative formulation; particularly bringing the family context/perspective; provide reflective practice, training and support to custodial colleagues in their day-to-day management of young people in the prison.
