We are actively seeking an exceptional Design Validation Engineer to join our Test & Validation team based in Cambridge. As a Design Validation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in defining and executing climatic, vibration, electrical, and EMC compliance testing activities. This is a critical role that will contribute to the development and launch of innovative automotive and motorsport products.
This is a full-time role reporting to the Design Validation Lead requiring the candidate to be on site 5 days a week
The Role:
- Assist the Lead Design Validation Engineer in ensuring correct technical decisions taken by the Validation team whilst performing their testing duties and ensure systems used meet the technical demands of the department.
- External Testing and Collaboration: Consult with external test houses when required to conduct specialised testing that cannot be performed in-house. Coordinate and oversee the testing process, ensuring accurate data collection and timely completion of testing activities. Occasional travel may be required.
- To deliver test objectives set by the Head of Test & Development, Lead Design Validation Engineer, and/or specific engineering Project Manager, working either individually or as part of a team.
- Laboratory Management: Maintain the laboratory and test equipment, ensuring proper calibration, functionality, and adherence to safety protocols. Proactively identify equipment needs, make recommendations for upgrades, and optimize resource utilization.
- Provide regular feedback, reports, and meeting attendance as necessary to keep department & project management fully informed of project status.
- Ensure all product testing aligns with industry standards and customer requirements and are conducted in an efficient and timely manner.
- Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
Candidate Profile:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical and / or Electronic Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience as a Test or Development Engineer within the Motorsport, Aeronautical or Automotive industry.
- Proven experience with Environmental and Electrical testing processes, such as ISO16750, ISO 11452, and ISO 10605.
- Solid understanding of Electronics and experience in testing electronic components or systems.
- Able to communicate effectively on a technical level with other engineers and managers, both internal and external to Cosworth. This includes the completion of written reports, oral communications and where required to accurately summarize issues from testing, propose root cause, containment and solutions to issues encountered during test.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of bench test equipment, including Power Supplies, Digital Multimeters and Oscilloscopes.
- Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking ability, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Have a good understanding of commonly used office software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to improving skills through relevant training and experience.
Desirable Attributes:
- Familiarity with EMC and RF test plans and techniques.
- Experience in utilizing test automation tools such as Python, NI LabVIEW, NI Test Stand, etc., to streamline testing processes and improve efficiency.
- Passion for home electronics projects and prototyping, demonstrating a practical understanding of hardware and software integration.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar platforms, displaying a practical understanding of embedded systems.
