Job description
Health and Safety Officer
Greater Manchester
6 month contract (permanent/ staff role possibility thereafter)
As the Health and Safety Officer, You will support the HSQE Manager in ensuring that the business is fully compliant with UK Health & Safety law and best practice standards and play a key part in establishing Health and Safety procedures across the business ensuring they are fit for purpose as the business grows. You will assist with supporting staff on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations.
Core Responsibilities
Be a Health & Safety Champion – lead by example and help create a positive safety culture throughout the business.
Focus on monitoring and auditing our site teams and build sites to ensure compliance in all areas of the business with provision made for administration, updates, follow ups and debriefs with the HSQE team.
Support, develop and implement Health & safety policies, procedures, including risk assessments.
To keep abreast of the changing Health & Safety legislation and ensure the company remains compliant and that management discharge their duties effectively.
Be actively involved with incident / accident investigations and when called upon, lead such investigations.
Carry out investigations to identify root causes of any incidents, accidents or near misses.
Carry out Health & Safety induction training for Contractors and Employees.
To act as an advisory point to all staff and managers on matters arising to Health and Safety.
Work with various managers in different departments to oversee on and off-site Health, and Safety requirements are met.
Carry out site safety audits of contractors and company site operatives as outlined in audit plan and arrange meetings relevant to the position and responsibility and close out actions from audits.
Carry out Health & safety audits of company office & warehouse facilities.
Support the Principal Contractor CDM activities for ensuring safety on site, working on Construction phase plans and any other related documents.
To develop and maintain relationships and clear lines of communication with the contractors.
To work with contractors and company employees to ensure that a safe environment is always maintained.
Prepare and present when required various health and safety toolbox talks.
Manage & maintain complete and accurate Health & Safety records to the company standard.
Attend safety training and safety forums to update job knowledge and enhance their personal skill set.
Review project preparation activities including completion of Risk Assessments & Method Statements.
Any other duties deemed as necessary by management.
Highlight and identify any safety training for others to ensure that company staff are aware of the safety principals in their roles.

Skills & Experience
Essential
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a health & safety role
Understanding & interpreting Health & Safety legal requirements
Experience of conducting and reviewing risk assessments
Experience with safety site visits/subcontractors.
Experience and knowledge of the CDM regulations etc.
Confidence to have a positive impact on the company
Attention to detail and a persistent approach to following up enquiries
Be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external clients
Clear written and verbal communication skills & experience using Microsoft Office
Full (Clean) UK driving license
Member of IOSH or equivalent
Nebosh or equivalent Level 6 diploma – Health & Safety
Desirable
Experience of creating high level communications and documentation
Experience and knowledge of ISO 45001: 2018 accreditation
Experience in a Telecoms Health & Safety role
SSSTS or equivalent CSCS card
Telecoms field safety training
