What is the job?
Our aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of our workforce by providing a pro-active on-site occupational health service for all our employees. This is a new position, and a varied role which will involve you establishing the department and its associated requirements and procedures as well as working alongside the Human Resources and Health & Safety teams to provide the highest standards of occupational healthcare. The ideal candidate will be one that is passionate about the work they do, takes ownership of what they do, and is able to build strong relationships with managers and staff alike, by bringing positive, encouraging, and consistent behaviour.
Working Hours: Core hours - 8.00-4.30pm (flexibility needed to cover all shifts within the business) - Hybrid (4 days on site, 1 home working) working considerations can be discussed at interview.

We use these products in manufacturing and research, from fibre optics to piezo motors. We are the gold standard with optics laboratories worldwide. There are now 22 facilities across the world in 13 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.
Where you will be working?
It’s a hybrid role, working in our new purpose-built facility in Witchford, Ely as well as your home. Our purpose-built facility is just 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful mediaeval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within reasonable walking distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.
Requirements
What is essential to us..
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health.
- IT literate – must be proficient in the use of MS Office applications – Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Clinical competence.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, strong listening and empathetic skills.
- Responsive and adaptable depending on the needs of the business.
- Good planning and organising skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrate a working understanding of relevant employment law in an occupational health context.
- Substantial OH knowledge including current/relevant legislation.
- Demonstrable, above average skills and competence in case management and providing advice in relation to the impact of work on health and health on work.
Ideal Experiences…
- Experience of working in Occupational Health preferably in a Manufacturing environment.
- Experience in identifying the OH needs of the business and implementing necessary policy and procedures.
- Experience in health education and health promotion.
- Experience in delivering health surveillance programmes and completing OH assessments.
- Experience of delivering comprehensive reports in a timely manner.
- Data collection and trend identification.

- Counselling and listening skills.

What we would you like you to do…
- Health Surveillance : Be accountable for and undertake routine health surveillance programs in relation to occupational hazards and in accordance with relevant statutory legislation. Including audiometry, spirometry, HAVS.
- Case Management Referrals : Manage complex cases and provide guidance on employee cases particularly around fitness for work assessments, amended duties, phased returns to work, long term absences and persistent short term absence. Provide comprehensive, clinically reasoned and evidence based occupational health reports to Human Resources. Work with both managers and employees to develop individual return to work plans.
- Clinical Assessments : Conduct comprehensive and regular occupational health clinics covering medicals and management referrals, new starter screening, forklift medicals, paper-based health assessments.
- Health Records : Manage employee OH Records. At all times comply with relevant legislation and good practice.
- Absence Management : Carry out attendance management calls and return to work meetings.
- Health & Wellbeing Promotion : Implement health promotion initiatives and programs to enhance employee well-being and prevent health issues. Run training sessions and actively promote physical and mental health fitness for work, both preventative and rehabilitative.
- Policy Development : Contribute to the development and review of occupational health policies and procedures.
- Risk Assessment : Work alongside the Health & Safety Team, contribute to workplace assessments by providing recommendations to mitigate health risks.
- Data & Analysis : Analyse, evaluate and communicate trends and issues to the business. Report on outcomes, ensuring compliance with legislation, medical standards, policies, procedures and NMC guidelines.
- Goals & Objectives : You will be expected to contribute to the success of the business by working towards achieving a significant reduction in the number of absence days lost due to short term absence and musculoskeletal issues and working closely with the business to deliver Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health (SEQOH).
- Collaboration : Work collaboratively with all areas of the business including employees, managers, the health and safety team and Human Resources. You will also be required to liaise with the employee’s primary healthcare services and/or specialists where necessary.
