Job description

1 To work to CSP and HCPC code of professional conduct and to work within the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice 2 To be clinically responsible for patients accepted onto your service caseload and to organise this with regard to clinical priorities, evidence based practice and ensuring most efficient use of skills, time and resources. 3 To act as a source of spontaneous and planned clinical expertise giving appropriate advice and guidance for the patient, carers, other professionals within health, education, social services and the voluntary and private sectors, within safe practice guidance and referral to senior physiotherapist as appropriate. 4 Provide and receive complex information relating to patients diagnosis; treatment and long term rehabilitation outcomes to patients; their carers and the multidisciplinary team. 5 To use communication tools (verbal and non verbal) to gain informed consent with patients where there may be difficulty with effective communication e.g. limited comprehension altered perception, pain, fear, and/or those who may be unable to accept diagnosis. 6 To use highly developed communication skills to give both spontaneous and planned advice in order to disseminate sensitive and emotive information in such a way that the patient understands their diagnosis and expectations for independent function and to agree goals and gain co-operation in the ongoing treatment plan. This may be with reference and sensitivity to cultural, religious and emotional barriers and needs. 8 To implement, evaluate, analyse and adjust treatment programmes according to the patient and carer needs, which may be highly complex. The frequent use of encouragement, motivation, negotiation, reassurance skills as well as discussing with clients/carers their progress will be essential. 9 To re-evaluate patient conditions which may change as a result of pathological processes, aging and the effects of treatment. 10 To work closely with South East Staffs Community colleagues and in partnership with Acute and Primary Care networks to provide a service in an integrated manner. 11 To work autonomously with responsibility and accountability for the planning, prioritisation and management of own workload including the allocation of appropriate duties to rehabilitation technicians, students and admin staff where appropriate. 12 To input data on patient recording systems, paper based and electronic (currently Rio) within the timescales specified in the record keeping policy. 13 To adhere to policies and procedures which ensure patient safety e.g. risk assessments, vulnerable adults and infection control. 14 To participate in SSNAP, CQUINs as identified by the organisation and the audit of the SquIRe project 15 To contribute to team huddles/goals/objectives. 16 To be responsible for maintaining own competency through Continuing Professional Development activities and maintaining a portfolio which reflects personal development and meets the Health and Care Professions Council standards. 17 To maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence based practice; developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient types through in-service training; self directed learning; tutorials; peer review and external courses 18 Formulate accurate prognosis and recommend best course of intervention; developing comprehensive discharge plans. 19 To hold responsibility for own specialist case load and be responsible for a defined area of service / patient type working without direct supervision as an autonomous practitioner. 20 To implement the audit cycle and use the results, current research and government guidelines to recommend changes to service delivery and to clinical practice, demonstrating evidence based link to the development and improvement of clinical practice 21 To continuously assess and reflect on current practices and identify and lead on changes in clinical and working practices to ensure that recognised best practice is implemented. To challenge opinion and negotiate to manage conflict where other team members are involved. 22 To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation e.g. lone working, manual handling, incidents, accident reporting 23 To participate in clinical supervision, peer support, staff appraisal and personal development plan. 24 The post holder will access supervision from senior staff in order to support their development/agreed objectives.
