Job description
The Commercial Finance Manager role is a business-facing role that will partner with the Commercial, Sales, and Operational stakeholders to provide financial management and decision support to help deliver the financial and strategic objectives of the business. The role holder must have the ability to “support the detail” as well as raise it up and engage with senior-level stakeholders across the business to enhance Commercial profitability whilst building long-term brand equity.
Key Accountabilities
Period Close and Reporting
- Deliver the month-end process, ensuring that all internal reporting deadlines are met, lead monthly review meetings with Sales and Commercial teams and provide appropriate analysis and reporting for Senior Leadership/Board.
- Support the Finance Performance Management process across the Sales and Commercial functions, ensuring the right information and insights are provided to guide delivery of financial targets.
Business Partnering
- Delivering Customer, Product and Sector financial performance insight to the Sales Management teams with the purpose of driving improved business decision-making.
- Supporting profit delivery through assisting the Commercial and Sales teams in preparing cost projections for all customer quotes.
- Developing financial models, budgets, and forecasts to steer business growth
Budgeting and Forecast
- Influence, coordinate and provide transparent management information for inclusion in Financial Business Plans (5YP, Budget, quarterly forecasts) relating to Net revenue, Gross margin and Commercial contribution.
Initiatives
- Deliver improvement initiatives across both Finance and the Sales and Commercial business. Initiatives will range from improving financial processes, and control to working with Sales and Commercial teams on business projects focused on accelerating growth and driving contribution where financial analysis and insight are required.
Financial Governance and Control
- Ensure a robust control environment is in place, constantly strive to improve accounting and control processes.
- Undertake financial control activities and support the wider Commercial business control framework to ensure risks within Commercial financial processes are mitigated. Key areas include balance sheet reconciliations, Commercial Investment appraisals and external audit requirements.
Systems and Processes
- Build a strong working knowledge of systems and processes to facilitate delivery of role elements above. Work effectively with IT to resolve system issues and deliver system-related process improvements which enhance Finance outcomes.
- Actively promote the Continuous improvement culture, continuously evaluating financial processes for optimisation and efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Accountant with at least three years post-qualified experience.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and adopt a challenging approach to deliver robust, accurate financial data and information to meet business needs.
- Experience in the analysis of complex financial information using financial modelling tools.
- Sound judgement and ability to make evidence-based recommendations.
- Ability to cut through ambiguity to provide insight.
- Demonstrable knowledge and use of an ERP.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and transfer it into meaningful financial information for use in business decision-making, are required.
- Confident, self-motivated, and resilient, able to proactively identify issues and drive delivery of solutions.Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration and business partnering skills, especially in cross-functional contexts.
