Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Virologist to join our dynamic research team. In this pivotal role, you'll be at the forefront of investigating viruses, their mechanisms, and how they interact with hosts. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and experiments to study various viruses, their life cycles, and effects on host organisms.
- Develop and implement molecular and serological assays for virus detection, quantification, and characterisation.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to contribute to vaccine development and antiviral therapies.
- Analyse and interpret data from experiments, presenting findings to scientific peers and non-specialist audiences.
- Keep abreast of latest scientific advancements in virology and related fields.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety and ethical standards.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to collaborative research efforts.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Virology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field; a Master’s or PhD is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a virology research setting, with a strong background in molecular biology techniques.
- Proficient in PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, and flow cytometry.
- Demonstrable ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and statistical software is advantageous.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in high-containment laboratories (BSL-3, BSL-4).
- Publication record in reputed scientific journals.
- Experience with next-generation sequencing and viral genomics.
