Job description
East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the East Suffolk Council's Environmental Services and Port Health service area as a Health and Safety Advisor with recent experience in a health and safety advisory role, recognised health and safety qualifications and a full UK driving licence.
The role
This post is in the Corporate Health and Safety Team but will primarily work with our Port Health Authority whose offices are in Felixstowe.
You must be a good team player with effective communication and influencing skills alongside a sound technical knowledge as you will be an integral part of the Council's Health and Safety Team providing competent advice to the Port Health Authority.
Working closely with managers, supervisors and staff, you will promote a positive safe working culture to ensure compliance with legislation by educating and advising the organisation on changes to legislation and areas of best practice.
What you will need
A desire for continuous improvement is essential as you will be expected to develop, maintain and review health and safety policies, safe systems of work, procedures and guidance and be responsible for auditing, investigating and reporting work related incidents in busy container port environments.
You will be educated to A-level standard or an equivalent, and willing to undertake suitable training to achieve a recognised Health and Safety qualification if you do not already have one.
You must have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels in the organisation, both orally and in writing, translating complex health and safety requirements into everyday language. You will also have excellent prioritisation skills and good negotiating and influencing skills.
If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all of the essential requirements, please apply.
We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
