As a Design Engineer you will be a part of our Wireline & Flowline (WLF) Engineering Team providing innovative Design Engineering Solutions to the manufacturing & aftermarket operations. You will be refining existing product designs in the production of valves, flowline equipment and other specialty products & required to complete models with detail drawings for the purpose of quoting, designing and satisfying customer requirements and aftermarket activities, acting as the expert for engineering matters on specific projects.
As a Design Engineer you will have a strong understanding of engineering design and manufacturing practices as they apply to the company’s core products and technologies. This is a key position within the Engineering organisation and requires the ability to plan and execute on many levels, to provide cross-functional support and the right level of customer interface.
You will contribute to a team of professionals comprised of Sustaining/Applications and Design Engineers who are engaged in value engineering activities and ongoing product improvements for all WLF product lines. You should be keen to take on fresh challenges, develop your technical and interpersonal skills as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design new products in accordance with relevant specifications, company quality procedures and industry standards
- Produce and check engineering documents (such as drawings, models, Bills of Materials, technical illustrations, manuals, reports and calculations) and basic layouts for designs, or parts of design, ensuring they are completed within the required timescales
- Carry out initial technical review of client requirements and specifications to define engineering design inputs
- Responsible for ensuring all deliverables are technically in accordance with client requirements
- Responsible for ensuring all deliverables are technically in accordance relevant specifications and legislative requirements
- Ensure all design outputs are in accordance with design inputs
- Attend design review meetings ensuring commercial awareness
- Answer internal and external product line technical queries
- Ensure internal checking and approvals procedures are adhered to
- Ensure document numbering and revision control procedures are followed
- Submit Technical Requisition documents for subcontracted or sub-vended engineering scope
- Submit Technical Requisition documents for any 3rd party design review or verification
- Report any design changes which may have a cost or schedule impact to the relevant project personnel
- Ensure that any Engineering relevant Non Conformance Reports (NCRs) are investigated, resolved and documented with engineering participation in root cause analysis
QUALIFICATIONS:
- HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent (essential)
- Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline (desirable)
EXPERIENCE:
- Working knowledge of design projects within multi-disciplinary teams within a manufacturing environment or the Energy Industry (essential)
- Working knowledge of oilfield equipment would be an advantage
- Specifically, Surface Test Trees, Gate Valves, Mud Valves, Plug Valves, Hammer Unions, Flowline equipment (desirable)
SKILLS, TRAINING OR SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE:
- Computer literacy with AutoDesk Suite, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MRP/ERP systems experience (essential)
- Understanding of ISO9001 (essential)
- Working knowledge in hand calculations, knowledge of design codes (essential)
- Have an understanding of commonplace industry materials and their application (essential)
- Knowledge of specific design codes, EC Directives and CE Marking, API 6A , ASME VIII Boiler and Pressure Vessels, ASME B31.3, NACE MR-0175, ATEX, Norsok, EN12079/DNV2.7-12.7.3 (desirable)
- Have an understanding of welding processes and procedures (desirable)
