Job description

Holt Executive are supporting a global leader in space technology development. Our client specialises in crafting satellite structures and propulsion systems, as well as world-leading digital processed payloads.

Our client is seeking a passionate AIT Lead Engineer (Contract) to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between engineering and manufacturing by championing AIT standards.

The successful AIT Lead Engineer (Contract) will be responsible for ensuring seamless communication, robust processes, and a high-performing team, ultimately contributing to the overall mission's success.

Rates:

£34.02 per Hour PAYE

£45.00 Per Hour Outside IR35/Umbrella

Key Responsibilities for the AIT Lead Engineer (Contract):

- Take ownership of the spacecraft's mechanical elements, to guide the mechanical team through the entire ENS project lifecycle, navigating phases A through E with expertise and leadership.
- Direct a team of skilled AIT Engineers on the specific project.
- Develop and implement weekly schedules for the mechanical and operations teams to drive efficient project progression.
- Produce specifications from test requirements, write test plans, DDV plans, AIT plans, test procedures and test reports.
- Control all project MGSE, flight and support equipment.
- Produce MGSE requirement specs from test requirements, operate and maintain MGSE.
- Produce test procedures and operate and maintain optical alignment equipment.
- Design test equipment and oversee its manufacture and commissioning.
- Mechanical handling of spacecraft, instruments, payloads, solar arrays, antennas etc
- Prepare and carry out environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft levels.
- Install and validate test instrumentation.
- Support propulsion testing
- Handling and installation of thermal hardware
- Oversee the mechanical integration and testing of a wide range of flight hardware, including electronic units, subsystems, instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, sub-systems, payloads, and spacecraft, while ensuring meticulous documentation throughout the process.
- Pyrotechnic handling, installation, and safety.
- Be able to travel overseas to work for short periods.

Key Skills & Experience for the AIT Lead Engineer (Contract) :

- Relevant engineering experience.
- Profound understanding of the intricacies involved in satellite integration and the approach to project phases.
- Proficient user experience of SAP or other ERP systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of build documentation and the role it plays in ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

- Experienced in leading and managing a team during day-to-day activities to deliver results on time and within budget.
- Spacecraft Mechanical testing on prime projects is essential.
- Experienced in the production of MGSE specs and operation of MGSE and flight HW.
- Experienced in producing high-quality documentation such as test specs, test plans, test procedures, AIT plans and DDV plans.
