Job description
Reporting in to the consulting function, the Backend Developer is responsible for designing and developing software applications in collaboration with a wider team. Adhering to coding standards and best practices, you will write clean, maintainable, and efficient code used in production for customers.
We are seeking a highly organised and goal-oriented person with solid problem-solving, analytical skills and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks.
- Development: Develop properly documented and tested software components to a defined specification.
- Software Testing: Conduct thorough testing and debugging of software applications to ensure they meet functional and performance requirements. Identify and resolve software defects and issues.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including software architecture, design documents, and user manuals. Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to the team.
- Knowledge: Good understanding of fundamental networking principles and multi-tiered architectures.
- Collaboration and Communication: Effectively communicate and collaborate with a team of developers, designers, and project stakeholders. Participate in code reviews, discussions, and knowledge sharing activities. Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions to the team and stakeholders.
Responsiv support a technical career developed through providing consulting and cloud platforms solutions and services. We develop and our own software and use technology from IBM, Red Hat, OpenSource and others. You will be part of the Responsiv Consulting department, alongside technical peers.
The role is office based in Bracknell with occasional home working.

To be successful in the role you will be self-motivated, driven and highly organised with good attention to detail.
- Technically confident in programming to agreed deadlines and quality, including testing, and documentation.
- Knowledge of IBM products (IIB/ACE, MQ, BPM) either administering, designing, developing, or testing is advantageous, their industry equivalents (commercial or opensource) would also be welcomed.
- Bringing creative ideas to the table, having a real impact on our product and engineering practices.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
- Teamwork and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
