Job description

Head Veterinary Surgeon for the Vet Clinic @ Birmingham Dogs Home (BDH); the role is responsible for leading and supporting a small, dedicated team of veterinary professionals and working in collaboration with the rehoming centre teams. There is the opportunity to have a real impact influencing and nurturing the growth of this young clinic.

The Vet Clinic @ BDH cares for the dogs in the charity’s care. It also provides high quality, first opinion services to a growing private small animal client base. Income generated from the private clients helps fund further charity work.

We are looking for someone with

• Strong clinical expertise Leadership experience to unite, motivate and support their team
• Veterinary management experience
• Customer centric approach
• Shelter medicine experience/ appreciation and understanding of rescue charity pressures
• Experience of strategic development of a veterinary clinic would be useful

We offer:

• Salary for 1 FTE is up to £72,250 (depending on experience & fit)
• Ideally full time (40 hours/ 4 days per week with some Saturday mornings) or flexible, part-time considered for the right candidate
• Contained working days – 15 min appts min, finishing on time
• £1500 CPD allowance + 30 hours per annum based on 1 FTE; Certificate funded for right candidate
• VDS & RCVS annual fees paid
• BVA or BSAVA membership paid
• Annual leave allowance, 6 weeks including bank holidays
• No out of hours work

Job based in smart, purpose-built, well-equipped clinic, located at our Birmingham Centre, Solihull, B92 0DJ. We have a second Rehoming Centre in Coven, Wolverhampton which is visited by the veterinary team several times each week.
