ATKINS LIMITED

Job description

What you will do in your working day

Our apprenticeships are designed to give you an insight into a wide variety of areas of work and the chance to explore where your skills and interests lie. Through a combination of on-the-job learning and practical skills development, you’ll work on real projects from day one that offer scale and variety, collaborating with others and creating meaningful impact on the world around us. You’ll work towards your professional qualification; whichever path you take, your future starts here.

You’ll also be supported by our leaders, technical specialists, your own dedicated mentor and our continuous learning and development framework.

Not only will you gain valuable 'on the job' experience and work towards professional qualifications but you'll also earn a meaningful salary from day one. We’re proud to be paying Real Living Wage for our Level 6 Apprenticeships.

You'll be making a sustainable difference in people's lives, shaping cities, reimagining transport and transforming nuclear energy. And with the opportunity to work across Cities & Development, Nuclear & Power, Transportation, Water or Environment, you'll decide where you want your career to go.

Here’s what your role as an apprentice will involve:

The training you will be getting

Our BEng Civil and Infrastructure Engineering degree apprenticeship is taught over five years and you’ll be learning while working in an exciting civil engineering role
Throughout your degree you’ll have direct access to being a member of a team for your employer working on civil engineering projects. On graduation, you will receive a Warwick BEng (Honours) degree, and with this as the gateway with the five years' of invaluable on-the-job experience you can take the assessments with a professional engineering institution for IEng membership.

Whilst parts of the degree programme are studied during on-the-job activities, the majority of the teaching will take place during six, one-week residential blocks, delivered by Warwick academic staff with collaborative teaching support from employers.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The BEng Civil Engineering degree apprenticeship has been developed in partnership with a group of employers. A sub-set of employers contributing to the degree apprenticeship programme are: Arup; Buckingham Group; London Bridge Associates; Keller, J Murphy & Sons; Mott MacDonald; Tata Steel and Warwickshire County Council.

While study on this programme learning will also happen at your place of work and this studying contributes to your overall degree qualification. As a degree apprentice you will be a full salaried employee. You’ll be working as part of a team with real responsibility giving you hands-on, vocational training every day. At work, you will be supported in your role by both your line manager and employer mentor. The mentor will be supporting you working towards satisfying a number of attributes with a Professional Institution, which currently is the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), via their training agreement for the IEng professional engineer qualification.

Successful apprentices will gain a BSc or BEng civil engineering degree which is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators.
