Job description

The Brief

This family are looking for additional care for their two young boys, both of whom have challenges and require additional care at home. Both boys are on the autism spectrum with moderate to low needs. In particular, both have speech and language delays with the youngest being non-verbal. Ideally, the candidate will have experience working with children with additional needs and will be able to cope easily with engaging the boys in play and help them develop their communication skills. The boys love to be outdoors and have no physical disabilities so someone who is happy to be active and happy to be out and about as well would be great. Mum will be at home and so the role is a mix of support and sole care

Start Date: ASAP
Hourly rate: £17 per hour (self-employed basis)
Hours: Mon, Wed, Thurs 8am-5pm
Location: Ashtead, Surrey
Other: Driver needed
Charges: Two boys, 5 and 3

The Role
- Creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for the boys
- Implementing consistent daily routines and structures that help the boys feel secure and comfortable
- Planning and implementing activities that are appropriate for the boys' developmental levels and that promote their skills growth
- Using communication strategies that are suitable for the boys' individual needs
- Collaborating with other professionals involved in the boys' care, such as therapists or educators
- Providing regular feedback to parents about the boys' activities, progress, and any challenges
- Preparing and serving meals and snacks, taking into account any dietary restrictions or preferences
- Assisting with personal care tasks, such as bathing and dressing
- Managing behaviour using appropriate strategies and techniques
- Administering medication, if necessary, and understanding the signs and symptoms that may require medical attention
- Help around the home with basic tasks such as making beds, emptying the dishwasher and keeping play areas clean and tidy
- Participating in any required training or professional development related to autism care

Requirements
- Experience working with children with autism
- Knowledge of autism and the unique needs and challenges it can present
- Patience and a calm demeanour
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to use non-verbal cues and simplified language when necessary
- Demonstrated ability to implement consistent routines and structures
- Proven ability to engage children in activities that are tailored to their developmental levels
- Understanding of how to manage behaviour using appropriate strategies and techniques
- Enhanced DBS check, First Aid Certificate and excellent references from previous employers
