Job description
Electron-X are an expanding company based in Milton Keynes supplying high quality, industrial x-ray
services ranging from lead-lined rooms large enough for aircraft engines to small cabinets for inspection
of electronic components. We have a small, multi-disciplinary team of designers, project managers,
technicians and commissioning engineers specialising in bespoke engineering project work.
We are looking for a Project Engineer who has suitable qualifications and a minimum of 5 years of
relevant work experience in Engineering Project work. Specific work experience in the x-ray sector is not
required (training and education will be provided).
This is a "Hands-on pm/project engineering role" combining project management, assembly, installation,
commissioning, documentation and quality. It will also involve liaison & support with other areas of the
company such as x-ray machines refurbishment, workshop management, sales & service. Site
management experience would be very favourable.
The duties and areas of responsibility associated with this job include:
• Project management tasks:
o Work planning, briefing project teams, contractors and suppliers
o Agreeing any additional work to be done within set timescales
o Gathering all information together for invoicing at the end of the project
o Identifying areas for improvement in existing contracting processes
o Co-ordinating the workload liaising with Electron-X staff
o Completing risk assessments and method statements
o Dealing with suppliers
o Attending and setting up meetings as required.
o On-time and on-budget delivery of the project
o Effective quality and health & safety management of the project
• Project Engineering tasks:
o Working to customer specifications
o Working to in-house designs, drawings and quality standards
o Quality control / checking of manufactured parts
o Creating & updating bills of materials
o Assisting with operation and maintenance manuals
o Assembly & fitting of sub-assemblies often containing belts, motors, bearings etc.
o Assembly & installation of steel frameworks, composite panels, doors &
manipulators etc.
o Setup & Commissioning of the x-ray cabinets & rooms
o Completing documentation (SAT, FATS etc.)
o Radiation Testing (training to be provided)
• Site management tasks:
o Ensure safety of staff during site work
o Ensure correct documentation is in place for site work to commence.
o Ensure correct tools, parts and information
o Oversee & supervise site the team
o Ability to step in at any point in the build if necessary
o Ensure completion of job
The role requires:
• A practical background
• 5 combined years of relevant work experience in Engineering Project work
• Knowledge and understanding of construction and building regulations and planning
• Commercial awareness
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
• Able to establish and maintain good working relationships
• Strong maths and IT skills
• Able to work either independently and as part of a team
• Able to work to deadlines
• Good problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills
• An understanding of health and safety issues
• Good MS Office skills (Word & Excel) and excellent written and spoken English
• Familiarity with MS Project
• Fast learning and a willingness to take on new skills and responsibilities
• Ideally, a HND or degree qualification in engineering, design or project management
Work will be based at our premises in Kiln Farm.
£30-40k based on experience. We will offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Starting as soon as possible for a full-time role: 38 hours & 5 days per week but we will also consider
part-time or compressed hours to suit the candidate.
