Job description

Bath & North East Somerset Council seeks an ambitious Development Officer to join the multi-disciplinary Regeneration team. In this career graded post, the successful candidate will be able to progress towards a Senior Development Officer and Principal grade within the role on delivery of key milestones, and the post will be extended on successful award of future grant funding.

The Regeneration team has secured over £24m in project delivery funding over the last three years and is now progressing a range of ambitious regeneration schemes in Bath city centre, local high streets and the nearby towns of Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Radstock.

This role will be responsible for leading the delivery of the Vacant Unit Action Project. By bringing otherwise vacant properties back into use for community benefit you will bring cultural, business, environmental and social uses to our city and town centres and local high streets. You will work closely alongside other service areas within the Council as well as partner organisations to achieve this.

You will be able to demonstrate how you can bring your knowledge and experience in planning, urban design or a related field to complex regeneration challenges, and work will include ideas and visioning, strategy, delivery including procurement, funding bid/business case preparation, engagement and consultation, property leases, planning and working with construction delivery teams.

New grant funded projects include the Bath Studio 22 pop-up space, Old Print Works art and community space in Radstock, the redevelopment of 1000m2 vacant town centre units in Keynsham as employment space and a meanwhile use project as a precursor to the development of Bath’s Fashion Museum in the Old Post Office. You will work on visions, concept plans and support the delivery and development planning applications.

This role offers the opportunity for flexible working, with a combination of working from home and office working.  Office time will be mainly spent in our award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible on public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away. Hot desking workspaces are also available in the Guildhall/Studio 22 Hub in Bath and Unit 14 Midsomer Norton
