We have an amazing opportunity for an experienced Character Artist to join us here at nDreams Studio in Farnborough, working on our upcoming VR game titles.
As a Lead Character Artist you will work alongside the Art Director and be responsible for guiding the Character Team to create fully realised, beautifully crafted characters. You will also help to build and nurture a creative environment that fosters self-improvement and ownership and establish pipelines and processes that empower the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide the Character Team to create visually stunning characters that capture the look and artistic style of the project, whilst satisfying all technical and design requirements.
- Inspire and motivate the team, providing mentoring and feedback to maintain high quality art with best practices and workflows.
- Interpret game design, 2D concepts and reference boards and communicate the vision clearly to the character team.
- Support production with planning schedules and realistic scoping to deliver character art assets on budget and in a timely manner.
- Co-ordinate with Design, Engineering, Animation and Technical Art to define efficient character pipelines and problem solving for the technical, performance and memory requirements for various VR platforms.
Requirements Who Are We Looking For? Essential capabilities
- High proficiency of character content creation software Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter
- Excellent knowledge of real-time engines (Unreal experience preferred)
- Strong high and low poly modeling skills and texture/material/shader creation within a PBR pipeline.
- Strong knowledge of human and animal anatomy, proportions and characterization.
- A strong portfolio of characters, both realistic and stylized.
- Proactive in seeking out ways to improve process, documentation and workflows.
- Identify and communicate risks whilst pro-actively seeking areas for improvement and efficiency in the Character Art pipeline.
- Able to run regular reviews with constructive feedback.
- Ability to set growth goals for you and your team.
Desired experience
- 6+ years of AAA Character Art game Development with 2 shipped titles within the console, PC, VR or mobile space.
- 1+ years' experience of managing a Character Art team.
