Job description

Communication: Communicate and liaises with colleagues, Team Leader, Shift Leader, Education Team and all members of the multidisciplinary team Develop a rapport with parents and families which shows a sensitivity to their particular circumstances including emotional state and level of understanding Articulate and interpret information for parents ensuring understanding Demonstrate an ability to communicate with parents, families and staff in complex situations and work towards a resolution Teamwork / Leadership Acts as a role model within the team developing and sustaining team working Supports and promotes a team concept in the delivery of patient care by liaising with Team Leaders and senior colleagues Effectively manages, delegates and supports members of the team in the medical and surgical areas Demonstrates responsibility and shows initiative in the workplace Is proactive within the team and contributes to team development through staff appraisal and objectives Actively contributes to the rotation of staff between the medical and surgical units Education / Professional Development: Maintains responsibility for identification of own continuing educational needs and professional development and ensures that the standards for re-validation are met Participates positively in own annual Personal Development Review and ensures all objectives are met Attends all mandatory training days as identified by the partnership and Trusts Keeps up to date with current neonatal developments and medical and surgical practices, demonstrating a continuing process of attaining education and clinical competence Actively participates in the service Induction and preceptorship programmes and acts as a mentor / preceptor to basic and / or post basic students and junior staff and performs work based assessments Acts as a role model within the neonatal service supporting, teaching and assessing staff in partnership with the Education Team and Team Leader Supports and promotes the personal professional development of junior staff within the team under the guidance of the Team Leader Liaises with Team Leader and participates in staff development reviews by acting as a Performance Development Reviewer Shares knowledge and expertise and participates in practice development initiatives Promotes a learning environment in which teaching learning and research are encouraged Adopts the role of mentor, preceptor, supervisor and assessor to learners / post basic students and provides constructive feedback to those learners / post basic students in order to promote learning Service Improvement Participates in clinical audit programmes and neonatal research within the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership as appropriate Is involved in current developments in neonatal care and new service initiatives and works with the team to ensure compliance Quality Ensures own actions are consistent with the Trusts clinical and governance systems and ensures that others are compliant Ensures own actions promote quality , participates in quality projects and encourages and supports others to be involved Practices in accordance with agreed standards of care and supports others to deliver high standards of care Demonstrates an understanding of the monitoring of standards of care and contributes to quality improvements Participates in quality programmes
