The successful applicant will provide general and colorectal surgical services (inclusive of cancer treatments) to the community served by the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.
You will play a key role with colleagues across the directorates of Surgery, Medicine and Urgent and Emergency Care in further developing general surgical services. You will work amongst the Directorate of Surgery, in particularly the General Surgery Services alongside General, and Upper GI surgeons.
All staff support and ancillary facilities are in place. This is an exciting time to join the team at George Eliot with the development of two new surgical wards, alongside a purpose built endoscopy suite.

The main purpose of this post is to support the Department and the Trust is maintaining a high quality service and to improve the continuously increasing demand on colorectal cancer care and maintain the RTT standards .
Our surgical department provides a comprehensive colorectal service including advanced laparoscopic surgery. The applicant is expected to be a fully trained laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgeon providing colorectal cancer care and be part of the colorectal cancer MDT. We are in the process of acquiring a surgical robot and any experience in robotic surgery would be welcome although this is not necessary.
We have a new purpose built JAG accredited endoscopy unit with 4 rooms all well equipped with modern endoscopes and scope guides. We are a regional immersion training centre for endoscopy and trainees attend colonoscopy lists from multiple trusts across the region. JAG accreditation in diagnostic colonoscopy is essential and we would welcome the applicant to be part of the training group and support is available for due trainer accreditation.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
