We are a leading manufacturer of a diverse and trusted range of concrete and clay building products used extensively within the construction sector, with instantly recognizable brands such as Thermalite blocks, London Brick, Ecostock, Cradley, Formpave and Jetfloor, Bison Precast.
Our product range comprises of clay bricks, Thermalite blocks, aggregate blocks, Red Bank chimney, roofing and flue systems, precast concrete and flooring products and Formpave permeable paving.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Bespoke Commercial team in the position of Project Manager on a Fixed Term Contract, based at our Somercotes site.

To simultaneously manage the successful delivery of multiple bespoke precast concrete projects. Working with the Bison pre-sales, operational and technical teams, and liaising directly with the customer, the Project Manager takes overall responsibility for the co-ordination of all aspects of post-sales project delivery. This includes the financial performance of the project, and ensuring technical compliance, quality and program requirements are met.

The incumbent will demonstrate flexibility, excellent inter-personal skills, and a can-do attitude to fulfil the needs of the projects, and the Bison Bespoke business.

Your duties would include but not limited to the following;

Maximise the financial performance of all projects where applicable (excluding production costs)
Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers.
Demonstrate an understanding of precast products, their manufacture, technical specifications and quality expectations. Product lines typically include, but are not limited to; box culverts, walling panels, stairs, beams & columns and slabs.
Work with the sales and estimating team to understand the contents of the quotation and cost budget for the components of each allocated project. Alongside the commercial team facilitate that the controllable costs (excluding production costs) are optimised. Identify any key risks to project spend and mitigate where possible.
Attend pre-let and handover meetings where appropriate.
Support the Commercial Manager, by understanding Bison’s contractual obligations of the project orders and highlighting any risks or areas of concern.
Liaise with the design, quality and technical teams to ensure that technical specifications of the design meet those included in the quotation, order and the agreed contractual documentation.
Work with the operational team and oversee the manufacturing and delivery programme in order to meet the contractually agreed customer needs.
Ensure that all project or customer specific processes are made known to all parties concerned (via handover process), are within the agreed bounds of the estimate/contract, and appropriate actions are co-ordinated
Attend customer meetings on site, or host customer visits including audits at Forterra Bison when required.
Report on project status e.g. ordering, design, manufacture or programme to the business as required. This may include providing support to the commercial team on the controllable costs to enable project financial performance analysis such as cost to complete reports, or programme status to contribute to the budgeting or reforecasting process.
Identify and manage all key project risks including those related to supply chain, design, programme or contract/terms and conditions.
Identify and notify to the commercial team any appropriate variations to the order resulting from changes between the estimate and design. Variations can be related to any aspect of the project including product quantity/volume, quality or programme.
Ensure the needs of the customer are recognised but also manage customer expectations throughout the project duration, and where applicable facilitate the actions and responses required with the commercial team that related to complaints, disputes, or claims.
Work with the commercial and credit control functions to minimise exposure to financial risks.
About you;

Essential skills and experience:

Previous experience in project management – or similar production or operational environment
Basic financial and technical awareness
Equally comfortable in customer facing and internally facing scenarios
The ability to travel to external meetings
Numeracy, literacy, ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Excellent interpersonal, listening, negotiation, communication, organisational and IT skills.
Desirable skills and experience:

Previous experience in a precast concrete project management role
5 years+ experience working in the precast concrete sector
Knowledge of construction techniques and site constraints
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Essential Education and Qualifications:

5+ GCSE’s (A-C or equivalent) including Mathematics and English subjects
Desirable Education and Qualifications:

A project management related qualification or professional background in technical engineering
A degree level qualification in a construction related subject.
Recognised safety competence e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH or SMSTS
