The Infrastructure, Security and Service Architecture team within Digital, Data and Technology Services (DDTS) are seeking a Cloud Architect. Our team provides the underpinning technology support for all other digital and technology services that Defra requires and delivers. This covers networking, device management, application hosting, cloud services, identity, architecting for simplified service operations and security by design.
We provide consultancy, guidance, design and assurance activities. Some of our individual team members focus on multiple areas, overlapping with other colleagues, and potentially be the authority (Domain Lead) for an area.

We welcome applicants with experience of working in an IT programme and project architecture and other technological backgrounds or graduates in a relevant subject who may wish to move into this field of work. We are looking for people with transferable technical skills and a keen interest in cloud architecture and a real passion and ability to make a difference. In this role you play an active and often practical part in the realization of the design to deliver the desired business outcomes. You will cover the end-to-end solution i.e. the business, information/data, application and technology aspects of the solution with support from specialists in both business and other technical domains.
In Defra you will work with the Cloud Centre of Excellence, providing guidance to projects looking to exploit cloud technology (either AWS or Azure) as well enhancing the range of foundation services that are made available to projects, working with Lead and Principle architects to create and refine roadmaps and blueprints.

Working as part of a small team you will work with projects and programmes of all scales to support delivery of an end to end solution architecture, and implement designs based on requirements, strategic drivers, best practices and guidance.
