Job Description and Qualifications
Our Industrial Gases business supports our UK clients by providing their essential gases via pipelines, tankers, and packaged gas cylinders, each product manufactured from raw materials produced by large air separation and liquefier plants at various locations across the country. This includes a portfolio of cryogenic and non-cryogenic assets that are based on our customers’ sites and deliver product directly to their production facilities. With our UK and Ireland business undergoing a period of significant growth, these plants are vital to our success, and this has created an outstanding opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Plant Manager to take responsibility for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our facility in Didcot. You will primarily focus on production to support the $450 million revenue for the UK Industrial Gases business.
As the Plant Manager, you will
- Deliver a safe operation, fully compliant with local legislations, international quality management standards and corporate standards; Minimising any risk to all employees, members of the public or the environment for the locations they are responsible for
- Ensure that our plants and pipelines operate reliably and in line with our efficiency models and targets; ensure production levels are achieved at the optimal cost to allow the downstream businesses to compete effectively in the wider industrial gas environments
- Build a focus on customer service, understand the importance of reliable production operations in achieving this
- Build and develop a team, empower them to take ownership of their local operations and ensure that they operate each production site with this long-term vision in mind
- Challenge how we have always done things, continually look for opportunities to simplify and improve the work practises within the organisation to develop the most efficient operating model for the business
- Execute improvement projects / turnarounds on time and in line with our operating plans
As the Plant Manager, you already are or have
- Degree level engineering qualification preferred (e.g. BEng); however, trade qualifications and extensive experience in an operating environment with a proven achievement record also acceptable
- Previous experience in an operations role; prior knowledge and experience of process and equipment operations in the chemical industry
- A continuous drive to improve and optimise their operation through the use of continuous improvement tools such as Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience in customer facing situations
- Comfortable in high pressure situations, has the ability to review information and prioritise with pace
- Strong communication skills across cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with SAP
